HSM (high speed machining) is a new comprehensive technique, which integrating Material Science with Engineering Mechanics,Information Science,Mechanical Kinetics and Manufacture Science. The conjunction between High speed machine tool and cutting tool effects performance & quality of HSM directly. Tool holder and tooling system , which are the components of conjunction ,are cared by national and international scholars. BIG-PLUS tool holder and tooling system ,as one of HSM application, have its character and background of engineering application. It have theoretical and practical significance to carry out basic study on BIG-PLUS tool holder tooling system .This paper studied the static and dynamic characteristic and its numerical simulation systematically based on the overview and analyses of the new tooling system at home and broad with the emphasis of BIG-PLUS tooling system. The primary contributions of this paper are:1. It deeply analyzed the structure characteristic of the BIG-PLUS tool holder , pointed out the structural foundation of its superior performance compared with the 7:24 tooling system, it provide theoretical proof to build numerical model correctly.2. It established the mechanic stiffness model of BIG-PLUS tooling system . limited bending moment equation was deduced under the status of tool holder and spindle separation,it will provide theoretical method for using BIG-PLUS tool holder correctly.3. The changing law of BIG-PLUS tooling system at high rotational speed is ascertained . The deformation and pressure distribution was numerical simulated by FEM. An approach of ascertaining the boundary speed is point out.4. Through study rigidity of BIG-PLUS tool holder and spindle couple, it indicate that taper conjunction effects radial rigidity greatly, it's pointed out to enhance the axis forces can improve contact quality between tool holder and spindle.This research is part of the project 'Develop and Application of Tool System in High Speed Machining' supported by National Key Technologies R&D program in the 10th five-year plan(Grant No. 2001BA205B05),it's also supported by Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu province (BK2004027).
