Due to its excellences, such as high productivity, high expansion ratio, good product quality etc., continuous extrusion method has gradually replaced the traditional rolling method and is going to be one of the most important manufacturing method of copper product. Continuous extrusion method research centre of Dalian Jiaotong University is the pacemaker of this field; the technology of this research centre has the highest level of the world. The workpieces in main principal axis system are main workpieces in continuous extrusion machine. Working under complex loads, the mandrel and extrusion wheel are easy to be broken, while their service life will impact manufacturing cost and productivity directly. So it is important to do research on the system, this thesis is just developing around this problem.1. Preprocessing work: Analyze mechanical and thermal working conditions of the principal axis system, set boundary conditions for the succeeding numerical simulation. Establish material performance parameters in difference temperature of work pieces in the main principal axis system so to make simulation work more exactly.2. Establish FEM model of the main axis system, through analysis, got stress and strain distribution in the whole main principal axis system. By changing number of prestress, the effet of prestress has been discussed. Set wheel as subject investigated, by doing dynamic thermal simulation, temperature and thermal stress distribution were got.3. Design experiment scheme and device, do temperature test experiment in production field, got working temperature of the wheel. By contrasting with FEM analysis result, the simulate job was verified. It is the first time thermo-mechanical analysis of the main principal axis system has been done; the simulation result can reflect the true working state. And also, it is the first time testing working temperature on the extrusion wheel; the experiment result is an important reference to the whole simulation process.
