In the petroleum industry, oil, water and natural gas are generallyproduced at the same time and sent in the form of mixture. According to thedifferent combinations of the flow medium, we can divid it intogas-liquid flow, oil-water flow and oil-gas-water multiphase flow. When the mixture flows in pipeline, different flow patterns will beformed varying with various parameters'changes. The dynamics and heattransfer characteristic is different for different flow patterns ofmultiphase flow. Therefore it is very important to study the flow regimesfor the theoretical research of multiphase flow and the measurement ofparameters.Paper introduces the flow patterns of the gas-liquid flow as wellas the major research method. The influence of liquid flow and gas flowfor the changes of flow patterns is observed through experiments, and itis the first time to simulate the flow regimes of two-phase flow inpipeline with numerical simulation software FLUENT.Through analyzing the characteristics of multiphase flow and thefeatures of use of the multiphase models in FLUENT, the VOF model isselected to simulate the flow regimes of gas-liquid flow in pipe. Paper uses the unsteady, implicit, segregated slover to carry out the numericalcalculation and does the qualitative analysis for the flow patterns inpipes. The simulation results show that VOF model can be used to simulatethe bubble flow, plug flow, stratified flow, slug flow and wave flow. Underthe condition that gas flow increases or liquid flow reduces, changes of theflow pattern are same as experiment conclusion. Comparing the simulationresults with the Mandhane Flow Pattern figure, we know that the two isapproximately consistent. It also carrys out the numerical simulation byuse of some of the expariment datas. The simulation results are consistentwith the experiment conclusions.
