After two centuries developed, belt conveyor which has features of continuously-running, low resistance, large conveying capacity, small power consumption, run smoothly and automatic control easily, has been extensively used as continuous transport equipment in the field of coal, metallurgy, port, chemical industry, electric power and so on. The technique trend of belt conveyor is multiple functions, widely used, long distance, large traffic and high speed. The researching meaning of belt conveyor is not just good for its starting and braking smoothly, but also can greatly reduce the cost of belt conveyor.At present, our technique of belt conveyor is behind international advanced technology. But the problem of start-stop is one of the keys to develop long distance and high speed belt conveyor. Whether the belt conveyor can operate safely, efficiently or not is depending on the start-stop characteristics of belt conveyor. Though the start-stop time of belt conveyor is short, its start-stop characteristics greatly influence the performance and structure of belt conveyor. There are several influencing factors of the start-stop characteristics of belt conveyor, such as the layout of driving sets, the performance of take-up system and the characteristics of belt. In order to research the start-stop characteristics of belt conveyor, a miniature experimental system of belt conveyor is built, which contains the soft start, hydraulic speed regulation brake and take-up system, and also the corresponding electricity and hydraulic control systems are designed. Compare the common starting and braking process of belt conveyor with the process of this experimental system. The key dynamic parameters of starting and braking performance are studied. Using force control configuration software, the key dynamic parameters of starting and braking process are collected. From these curves we can analyse the influencing factors of start-stop characteristics of belt conveyor. Via this experimentation, the approaches to improve the start-stop characteristics are searched.The braking process of downward belt conveyor is a difficult problem. An experimental loading system of hydraulic speed regulation braking system is established in laboratory, the structure and scheme of experimental system are designed. The braking process of braking system is simulated, at the same time study the braking process in detail, the pressure, speed and torque curves are captured. Via the simulation test of hydraulic speed regulation braking system, we can see that the hydraulic speed regulation braking system is not just used for high speed braking but also can used for protecting for loading and normal braking. All of these are important for belt conveyor, especially for high speed and over loading belt conveyor.
