Belt conveyor is important transportation equipment in coal preparation plant, and its operational status is directly related to the safe production and economic benefits of enterprise. With the development of high belt speed, large-capacity, large power, long-distance belt conveyor, lots of problems appear which need to be urgently resolved, such as the influence of start-up current on power network, big dynamic tension force which is caused by short start-up time, full load starting, power-unbalance of multi-motors, emergency shutdown and so on. Researching on drive system, operation status and way of soft start-up is a key that resolves the above-mentioned problem. This paper aiming at belt conveyor with speed adjusting hydraulic coupler establishes the mathematical model of the drive system. In view of internal fluid complexity in hydraulic coupler, the controlled object is nonlinear, time-lag, time-variation and strong-coupling system. in the case, precise drive system mathematical model is hard to build. The traditional PID control which is based on linear is often hard to obtain the optimal closed loop control effect for this type load. This paper presents a more perfect fuzzy PID control scheme. The new one not only overcomes the effect of load but also possesses simple principle, stable and reliable control property of PID controller.The oil liquid of hydraulic coupler is regarded as the research object in the paper. Simulating model is set up in this paper whose input is the control current of executive mechanism and output is turbo-drill rotating speed of hydraulic coupler. By using the MATLAB/Simulink simulation software, the whole system was simulated and researched.Finally, this paper according to the work principle of belt conveyor drive system and the implementation method of soft start up proposes a reasonable and feasible design scheme. By using micro electronic technology, the hardware of soft starting and regulating speed controller which MCU is PIC18F458 singlechip is designed. The software program is compiled by C language. This paper makes relevant research on the realization of distributed monitoring and control network system of belt conveyor for coal mine based on the can bus.The system has passed the test and achieved the anticipative effect. It was proved in practice that design was reasonable and the system was simple and feasible.
