"Hua Xue Fen Yuan", the first translation of the analytical chemistry introduced to China by Xu Jianyin and Fryer, played an important role in modern chemical education, analytical chemistry terms, compilation of chemistry textbooks and other aspects. Chemical elements and compounds qualitative and quantitative analysis methods, production and use of instruments and laboratory preparation methods of several chemical reagents were introduced in this book, in which the vast majority are in use in present chemistry textbooks, so it can be called model of China's modern analytical chemistry textbooks. This in-depth study of the typical case, by comprehensive analysis of its content and comparative studies of the Chinese translation and English version, can help us not only understand the details how modern chemistry was accepted by Chinese, but also to sort out the modernization and the localization process of chemistry in China, and the early development of chemistry textbooks. In this paper, domestic and foreign literature were used to research the Chinese translation of "Hua Xue Fen Yuan". We can find that analytical chemical knowledge introduced was systematic and rich, with vivid, illustrated content, tight logic, reasonable structure and strong normativity. The master copy of the Chinese translation was determined by research to the English versions. Differences were summed up by comparing the Chinese translation and English version.Translation of chemical terms was very important in the chemistry localization process. Chinese version of "Hua Xue Fen Yuan" not only brought to China the more advanced and systematic knowledge of analytical chemistry, but played an important role in the establishment of analytical chemistry terms, to some extent, speed up the modernization process of analytical chemistry in China. In this paper, chemical terms in the English version, Chinese translation, chemical language and modern chemical terminology dictionary were compared, with a understanding that some analytical chemistry terms translated in that times are still used in China, but the terminology of modern analytical chemistry is mainly referred and learnt from the Chinese translation in Japanese from the late 19th century to early 20th century. The literature recordation, spread and impact in China and abroad of "Hua Xue Fen Yuan" were also investigated in this article.
