Object: To investigate the treatment effect of Jingtongling Decoction(JTLD) on cervical spondylosis. Methods: In this experiment, 28 white New Zealand rabbits were used and divided into 2 groups randomly, model group and control group. The animal models were established by removing the muscle group in the neck of rabbits, breaking the supraspinal and interspinal ligaments in the neck of rabbits . After 1 week, these rabbits were respectively put into some special boxes, keeping headbending position, twice one day, two hour each time. After 8 weeks later when the animal models were established successfully, they were divided into 3 groups randomly, Jingtongling (JTL)group, Jingfukang(JFK)group and nonnal Saline group. And cervical vertebrae X-ray were tested at 4, 8 weeks. At 8 weeks , 2 rabbits were killed respectively in model group and control group in order to prove the successful model. Then the JTL group and JFK group were administered with JTLD and JFKD respectively, non-rial Saline group and control group were administered respectively with nonnal Saline every day.The animals were killed in order to collect experimental samples after 4 weeks treatment The degree of degeneration was observed by optical and transmission electron microscoped, as well as the content of some inflammatory mediators (prostaglandin E2,6-deto-prostaglandin F1 and HE)were measuredResults: (1)4 weeks after experiment, the imagiology had not significantly variated(P>0.05).However 8 weeks later, x-ray photograph after model establishment showed that thephysiological curvature in the cervical vertebrae of the animals disappeared or evenrecurved jntervertebral foramen became smaller, intervertebral space became narrow andosteophyte was fanned in vertebrae. (2) The examinations by optical and electron micnoscopealso fully showed progressive degeneration of cervical intervertebral disc and significantdifference in comparison with the control group. Among these groups, the degree of degenerationwas less serious in the JTL group than that of in the JFK group and model group.(3) There wassignificantly difference between normal Saline group and control group in variation of thecontents of PGE2 ,6-ketone-PGF1 and HE in the intervertebral disc of the animals (P<0.01) .There was significantly difference between the normal Saline group and control group (P<0.01).They had not difference between JTL group and JFK group (PXX05). There was significantdifference in comparison among the two administered groups (JTL group and JFK group) andthe control group of the contents of 6-k-PGF1 and HE(P<0.05), but they had not difference in thecontents of PGE2.Conclusion: (1) Degeneration of cervical interverteral disc in rabbits can occur by operation and headbending position after 8 weeks. (2) JTLD can effectively treat cervical spondylosis by delaying degeneration of cartilage cells and collagen in nucleus pulposus. (3) The content of PGE2 , 6-kelone-PGF1 and HE in the degeneration cervical intervertebral disc of the model animals were always higher, which may be relating to the degeneration of cervical vertebral, JTLD can effectively control the production of the 3 inflammatory mediators.
