Objective :The aim of our study is to evaluate the effect of the good blood glucose and lipids controls on the serum Lp(a) level in middle age and old type 2 DM patients. Methods:Using ELISA method to measure Lp(a) level, Using 7150 hitachi full automatic biochemical analyser to measure blood glucose and lipids. To compare the Lp(a) levels between 78 middle age - old type 2 DM patients and 50 normal health controls; To stratify diabetic group into 2 groups according to fasting blood glucose, FPG≤7.0mmol/l(the good control group),FPG>7.0mmo/l (the bad control group) ; and To stratify diabetic group into 2 groups according to lipid level. To analyse the serum Lp(a) level in different conditions. Results: In comparing with the controls, the serum Lp(a) level was significantly higher in DM group, To compare between the controls and the groups with different blood glucose levels; the serum Lp(a) level was not statisticlly significantly different between the normal controls and the good blood glucose controls group. Well, when comparing to the bad blood glucose control, it was significantly different(p<0.01). and there were highly significantly different among the good control group and the bad control group.( 88.23±69.57 mg/I; 258.74±175.58 mg/I; p<0.01 ); the Lp(a) level in lipid disorder group was a little bit lower than that in lipid normal group,it was not statisticlly significantly different. There was a positive correlation between Lp(a) concentration and FPG in type2 diabetes mellitus subjects(r=0.404,p<0.0000)Conclusion: The fasting blood glucose have an effect on the Lp(a) level, and the good blood glucose control could low the serum Lp(a) level, it may very important to prevent the chronic complications of DM. The lipid level has no effect on the Lp(a) level, the Lp(a) could be a useful index to observe the AS and it's complications.
