Objective To investigate the relationship between the changes in serum nitric oxide (NO) and plasma von Willebrand factor(vWF) levels and the pathogenesis of coronary heart diseases (CHD) .Methods The concentrations of NO in the sera of 38 healthy subjects and 39 patients with CHD were determined by enzymatice assay with nitrate reductase, while the plasma vWF levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) .Results The average serum concentration of NO in the patients was (56.3 ±21.0) umol/ l,much lower than that of healthy subjects (79.7 ± 21.1) umol/1, (P<0.01) .The levels of vWF were significantly higher in patients than those in controls. ((182 ± 21) %vs (142 ± 24) %, P<0.01)Conclusion The decreased NO and increased vWF levels in the serum might be involved in the pathogenesis of arteriosclerotic heart disease.
