Objective To explore the relationship between serum DDT and urinary FSH; Also between serum reproductive hormone levels and different pregnancy outcomes. Methods Between August 1996 and August 2000, we investigated newly married women textile workers with a validated baseline questionnaires and established a cohort of newly married women using all eligible subjects. Eligible women in the newly married cohort who were planning to become pregnant entered the pre-pregnant monitoring cohort when they stopped using contraception. They began to record daily diaries (a record of menstrual status and important exposure information) until they were clinically pregnant (or up to a year if never pregnant). We also collected daily urine samples until they were clinically pregnant (or up to a year). When all eligible subjects were clinically pregnant in the newly married cohort, we would investigate them every three-months and collect information about exposure and pregnancy outcomes (such as clinical spontaneous abortion and live birth). If the pregnancy outcome was live birth, we would extract information such as baby's birth weight, sex and birth date from hospital records. In the first study, we measured urinary hormones, including PdG, E1C and FSH, using a chemiluminescent immunoassay. We measured serum DDT and its metabolites at the Harvard University Organic Chemistry Laboratory . In the second study, we measured PdG and E1C using an enzyme immunoassay. Results There was a positive association between serum DDT and urine Log(FSH), which was significant before stratification by the conception status of the cycle. In non-conception cycles, the results were similar to the whole sample size, but the results were not significant in conception cycles. There was no big difference in Log(PdG)...
