Objective: The dissertation aims to improve a method for evaluating the burden of disease (BOD) for urban residents, using disability-adjusted life years (DALY), an indicator presented recently, and evaluate their health status from different aspects with several indicators, and provide scientific guide for urban dweller's diseases prevention and treatment, and provide reference for reasonable application of these indicators through comparing the new and old indicators.Methods: With cluster sampling method, 619,174 dwellers from Shahekou borough have been surveyed and the data concerning demography, and surveillance of death were collected. The level of mortality and spectrum of mortality are analyzed by calculating crude death rate (CDR), standard mortality rate (SMR). DALY is calculated and the BOD from different causes over people was evaluated. Meanwhile the weaknesses as well as the strong points of these indicators are pointed out.Results: (1) It is indicated that Dalian urban area has entered a senescence society for the persons over 65 years of age account for 9.78% , and the persons under 14 years of age account for 12.15% of all the investigated urban residents, the ratio between these two group of persons is 80.50%.(2)0f all the investigated urban residents, CDR is 5.81‰(6.66‰for male, 4.95‰for female ),SMR is 6.40‰(7.18‰for male, 5.51‰for female).(3)The non-communicable diseases are the leading causes of deaths(deaths caused hereby accounting the leading causes for 90.9% of all the deaths),the second significant death causes are injuries(accounting for 7.12% of all the deaths), and the deaths caused by communicable, maternal, and perinatal diseases account for only 1.98% of all the deaths.
