Objective1. To describe the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in Jiangsu Province by using IDF 2005 and ATP III 2005 definition.2. To compare the significance of the application in Jiangsu population using the diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome (MS) proposed by the IDF in 2005 , ATPIII in 2005 and CDS in 2004.3. To identify risk factors in patient with metabolic syndrome (MS) .Methods1. Multistage cluster sampling method was used the participants were interviewed by trained health workers using structured questionnaire. FPG, blood lipids, BMI, blood pressure were measured.2. Based on the populations in Jiangsu province from the project of Multiple Metabolic Disorders and Metabolic Syndrome,a study was conducted including 5888 cases , with data of plasma glucose , lipid profile , blood pressure , serum insulin and so on. MS was diagnosed and compared according to these three definitions respectively.3. Based on the populations in Jiangsu province from the project of Multiple Metabolic Disorders and Metabolic Syndrome,a study was conducted including 5888 cases , with data of plasma glucose , lipid profile , blood pressure , serum insulin and so on.From the research, a 1:1 matched-pairs case-control study (136 pairs) is drawed. The subjects were performed. Statistical analysis of univariate, logistic regression was used to identify risk factors of MS.
