Objective To study the levels of nitric oxide synthase(NOS) expressing in nasal mucosa of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC), and to explore the relationship between NOS expression and NPC after radiotherapy, and to analyse the factors which come from NOS expressing in nasal mucosa of patients with NPC.Methods The immunohistochemitry (ElivisionTM plus) was used to examine the expression of iNOS, eNOS and nNOS in nasal mucosa at the end of inferior turbinate from patients undergoing NPC(n=22), NPC after radiotherapy(n=17) and deviation of nasal septum(n=11).Results (1) The immuno-staining of iNOS was strongly positive in all nasal mucosa from NPC patients. A few positive staining of iNOS was found in the nasal mucosa from NPC patients after radiotherapy and the deviation of nasal septum patients. In the semi-quality analysis, the expression of iNOS were higher in NPC patients than those in NPC after radiotherapy or in patients of deviation of nasal septum (p<0.01); there were no difference in the expression of iNOS between NPC patients after radiotherapy and the patients of deviation of nasal septum (p>0.05). (2) The immuno-staining of eNOS was strongly positive in all nasal mucosa from NPC patients and the deviation of nasal septum patients. A few positive staining of eNOS was found in the nasal mucosa from NPC patients after radiotherapy. In the semi-quality analysis, the expression of eNOS were lower in NPC patients after radiotherapy than in NPC patients before radiotherapy or patients of deviation of nasal septum (p<0.01); there... |
