Objective: To study the effect of nitric oxide (NO) in seminal plasma and bloodserum of infertile patients with asthenospermia on sperm motility. Methods: Select 50 infertile patients with asthenospermia and 30 men who withnormal sperm motility. All of them are consistent with our research conditions. Then take semen analysis by computer at first and get a portion of blood serum and seminal plasma a week later. All the collected specimens were conserved on -20℃ low temperature and determined NO with chemical colorimetric. Analyze and contrast the results to study the effect of nitric oxide on sperm motility. Results: The NO in seminal plasma of infertile patients with asthenospermia weresignificantly higher than those of fertile men who with normal sperm motility. The NO in blood serum with asthenospermia had no deference with those of fertile men who with normal sperm motility. The NO content in seminal plasma of infertile patients with asthenospermia correlates with the sperm motility. Conclusion: The level of NO in seminal plasma correlated closely with male fertility. Higher content of NO may lead to infertility by influence sperm motility. So detecting the levels of NO and motility in seminal plasma have important significance to observing the state of male fertility and guiding clinical effective treatment for infertile patients with asthenospermia.
