The clustering of dysglycaemia, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and central obesity represent the major features of metabolic syndrome. Which may lead to cardiovascular disease and complication. The etiology of metabolic syndrome is very complicated, heredity and environment factors may play important role. The evidence from epidemiological studies showed that illegitimate diet and lifestyle are signigicant etiological factor. During Spring Festival, people gather together, consume more fat and alcohol, which may contribute to metabolic syndrome.OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to determine the serum phospholipid fatty acid profile in patients with metabolic syndrome before and after the Spring Festival.METHOD: The clinical indicators of the 37 cases of MS patients (male: 21; female: 16 , aged 64.2± 16.2y) lived in Huajiachi community were determined before and after the Spring festival. The method for the determination is according to the standard by IDF (2005). And Gas chromatography(GC) was used to determine serum phosphohpid fatty acids from a month before the 2005 spring festival and 15 days after the festival, the blood plasma lipids was gained by enzyme method, and the limosis blood sugar was determinated by glucose oxidase method. We deal with the data by SPSS12.0 software and P<0.05 means the significant difference.RESULT: 1.The MS patients had a significant difference in triacylglycerol(TG), fasting blood glucose(FPG), waist circumference (WC). All of these index were raised significantly. And there wasn't a significant difference in total cholesterol(TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood pressure (BP) and body weight (BW). 2.There wasn't any significant difference in serum phospholipid fatty acids before and after the Spring Festival. 3. Bivariate correlate between biochemical indicator and serum phospholipids showed: there is a significant negative correlation between TC and C18:1, MUFA, n-3/n-6PUFA. And TG was significant positive correlate to C16:0, C18:0, C18:2n-6, C20:4n-6, SFA, n-6PUFA> PUFA. LDL-C was also significant positive correlate to C20:0. BW was significantly negatively correlated with C20:0, and systolic blood pressure (SBP) was significantly negatively correlated with C22:0.CONCLUSION: 1.There is no significant variation in fatty acids profile during our traditional festival-the Spring Festival in MS patients. 2 The patients should reduce their SFA intake, increase n-3PUFA and MUFA.
