Objective Through investigating the prevalence rate of hypertension among rural adultspopulation of Baoshan town and estimating hypertension's genetic and enviromental influentialfactors, we can get accurate data to define epidemiological characteristics of hypertension inBaoshan town so that we can give these people some prevention and suggestions abouthypertension. Methods 9903 residents aged 16 above were questioned and measured by trained investigatorsin May 2006, including blood pressure, body height, weight, body mass index,WHR, etc.Theanalysis by using Epidata3.0 and SPSS12.0 package includes single factor and logistic regressionanalysis. Results Their average height was (161.24±7.85) cm, weight was (63.26±10.11) kg, waist was(85.51±11.22) cm,hip was (94.47±9.78) cm, SBP was (126.71±19.24) mmHg, DBP was(77.84±11.38) mmHg,age was (52.51±14.09). Prevalence rate of hypertension was33.27%,standardized prevalence rate was 21.32%. There were no significant difference betweenmen and women(x~2=0.0013, P>0.05). Prevalence was increased with the age(x~2=1004.03, P<0.05).Both the SBP and DBP level were significantly increased with the age (r=0.3775 and 0.1616,P<0.05) and there were no significant difference in SBP level between men and women (t'=0.28,P>0.05), while there were significant difference in DBP level between men and women (t'=6.54,P<0.05). Laboratory tests had no significant difference between hypertension andnon-hypertension except T-CHO (P>0.05). Single factor analysis showed that hypertension wasprobably related with age, income, smoking, drinking, family history, education,BMI,WHR,vegetable ang tofu intaking, salt, sports, disposition, stress, sleeping and T-CHO. By theunconditional logistic regression analysis, education, family history, BMI,tofu intaking and stressare entered the equation. The rates of awareness, treatment and control of hypertension were27.13%,17.81%,6.16%.Conclusions Hypertension is caused by many factors. The rates of awareness, treatment andcontrol of hypertension were expected to be improved in Baoshan town. Correspondingintervention measures should be taken to educate patients with health knowledge ofhypertension and might effectively prevent the occurrence of hypertension, such as healtheducation, blood pressure screening, management and control of hypertension.
