Objective To explore the effects of celery on reproductive system in male mice and its possible mechanism, offering some clues for further development and use of celery.Methods (1) To observe time effect, the first 26 male mice of Kunming strain were divided randomly into 4 groups according to the body weight, including negative control, group A, group B, positive control. To observe dose-response, the latter 32 male mice of Kunming strain were divided randomly into negative control, group 1 and group 2.All mice were given corresponding handle with intraperi-toneal injection.(2) The 133 male mice of SPF were randomly divided into 7 days, 14 days and 28 days group according to the body weight. Then each group was divided into normal saline group, the low-dose group, the dose and high-dose group. All mice were given corresponding handle with intragastric administration. Sperm motility parameters were measured by WLJY-9000. Deformity of the sperm was observed through eosin staining. Testosterone(T), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) of the serum were measured by radioimmunoassay. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alkaline phosphatase(AKP) and acid phosphatase (ACP) of testicular homogenate were measured through spectrophotometric assay.Results (1) Found by intraperitoneal injection, compared group B with negative control group,ρhad significance. Compared group 1 with negative control group, VCL, VSL, VAP, ALH, STR,ρhad significance. VCL, VSL, VAP, ALH also had significance when compared group 2 with negative control group.(2) Found by intragastric administration, VCL, VSL, VAP, WOB,ρof 7 days had statistical significance compared with 28 days. VSL, BCF, LIN, WOB, STR,ρof 14 days had statistical significance compared with 28 days,ρof the dose and high dose groups with normal saline group had statistical significance.(3) The results of intraperitoneal injection showed that sperm deformity rate of experimental group and negative control group were lower. Main types of sperm deformity were amorphous and no hook.Conclusion Celery could affect sperm motility parameters and lower sperm density of male mice, teratogenic effect was not conspicuous, suggest to further research for celery, better develop and use them.
