Objective: To provide the fundamental data for the prevention of hypertension inminority areas and to improve local people's health status based on the understandingof the current situation of hypertension prevalence and exploration of the influentialfactors of Yugu nationality in Zhangye City, Gansu ProvinceMethods: Adopted the methods of cluster sampling, face-to-face inquiry andmedical check on Yugu and Han nationalities above the age of 35 in SunanAutonomous County, Zhangye City to obtain relevant information for statisticalanalysis.Result:①The hypertension prevalence rate of Yugu and Han nationality inGansu province were 30.0% and 34.8% respectively. The hypertension prevalencerate of male and female of Yugu nationality were 34.1% and 27.0% respectively andgradually increased with age. In the group below the age of 55, the hypertensionprevalence rate of male was higher than that of the female. In the group above the ageof 55, the result was the other way round.②These hypertension prevalence rates of the Yugu over-weight and obesitywere 34.7% and 48.3% respectively, obviously much higher than the prevalence rateof 21.5% of normal people. The hypertension prevalence rate rised with the increaseof the Body Mass Index. The prevalence rate of the male and female with abdominalobesity were 40.9% and 33.9% respectively, much higher than 18.3% and 20.4% ofmale and female with normal WHR. For Yugu nationality, the hypertensionprevalence rate differed with educational background: the illiterate had the highestrate of 43.5%, for the people with junior college education 28.9%. The prevalencerate gradually decreased with the increase of the education people received. Theprevalence rate also differed for people with different incomes. It was 22.6% for thepeople with the annual income of 15,000 Yuan and above. When income increased, the prevalence rate gradually decreased accordingly. In addition, the prevalence rate varied for people with different physical labour time. For those whose labour time lessthan or equal 2 hours, the prevalence rate was 43.5%. And it decreased to 24.0% forthose who worked more than 8 hours. It was concluded that the prevalence rate ofhypertension gradually decreased with the increase of physical labour time. For Yugunationality, the prevalence rate was 40.2% with less than or euqal 2 hours' labour timeand 23.0% with more than 8 hours' labour time. Among people with hypertensionfamily history, 31.2% of them suffered from hypertension. The prevalence rate ofhypertension of people without family history was 29.1%. For Han nationality, 40.5%of the people with family history suffered it, while the prevalence rate was 29.1% forpeople without it. The discrepancy had statistical significance. Among Han and Yunationalities, the prevalence rate of people with diabetic were 31.3% and 48.4%respectively, and the rate were 30.0% and 33.8% for those without diabetic.③60.1% of Yugu nationality were aware of hypertension, and 37.6% of themobtain the information from medical staff, 21.6% from family members and friends, while 24.1% from the media. When they were sick, 41.5% of Yugu people would go tohospital, 20.7% would go to the nearest clinic, and 32.5% go to pharmacy. They werequite similar to Han people in this aspect.④The awareness rate of hypertension of Yugu people was 58.9%, the treatmentrate was 55.1%, and the control rate was 2.7%, while those of Han people were 64.2%,60.7%, 12.8% respectively. They were all much higher than those of Yugu people, andthe control rate were even 4.7 times higher.⑤The logistic regression analysis of risk factor of hypertension showed thesequence of the risk factors for Yugu people: over-weight and obesity, OR value=1.79,abdominal obesity, OR value=1.57, age, OR value=1.06. For Han people, it was asfollows: with family history of hypertension, OR value=2.06, abdominal obesity, ORvalue=1.80, over-weight and obesity, OR value=1.68, age, and OR value=1.05.Conclusion: The prevalence rate of hypertension of Yugu people in SunanAutonomous County was higher among the prevalence rates of minorities. Major riskfactors for hypertension were: over-weight and obesity, abdominal obesity, and age.The hypertension control rate of Yugu nationality was relatively low.
