A Study On HIV/AIDS Health Education And Behavioral Intervention Effect Among The Uygur's Inhabitants

Objective: To understood the knowledge levels related to HIV/AIDS and the correlative behavior among the Uygur's community residents, carry out comprehensive intervention system based on community, and explore the valid HIV/AIDS Health education and Behavioral intervention methods for the Uygur's community populations. And provide advices for HIV/AIDS prevention and control of minorities in china. Methods: conducting community trial study of epidemiological method, The eight months commprehensive intervention was conducted in three Uygur's communities, another three communities was selected also as control group without any intervention. Intervention action mainly depend on the community's lead and backbone, which including four ways, namely singing and dancing shows, the backbone of training, face-to-face propaganda and religious lectures. the process evaluation was used in the intervention program to evaluate four ways. Three month later after the intervention finished, The comprehensive evaluation on the effectiveness of the intervention was conducted by qualitative and quantitative study. Multi-logistic-regression analysis was used to evaluate the affecting factor of awareness rate for HIV/AIDS. Results: The awareness rate of the community residents on general AIDS knowledge before the intervention is 64%. The affecting factor of HIV/AIDS knowledge are mainly influenced by gender,age, educational level and massage.After the intervention, the awareness rate of the intervention group on general AIDS knowledge is 85.9%, the awareness rate on the basic knowledge of AIDS rose from 79.1% to 86.2%, the awareness rate of preventive measures rose from 47.9% to 81.7%. The rate of recongnize Condom rose from 63.2% to 76%, The condom usage"during the last time"they had sex with fix partner increased from 15.1% to 33%, the every time frequence of condom usage"during the last month", they had sex with fix partner also increased from 5.6% to 14.3%, while the control group had no significant change. Process evaluation shows that the singing and dancing shows is the most welcomed, the backbone of the training method is simple and feasible, The acceptability and effectiveness of the leaflets from face-to-face propaganda is worst. Conclusions: The health education and behavioral intervention of AIDS based on Community-based can effectively raise awareness of community population about AIDS. we should give full consideration to social and cultural particularities of minority areas on AIDS health education ,mobilizing non-governmental forces and training backbone of the community to ensure that the sustainability of interventions on AIDS health education and behavioral intervention.
