This plant belongs to the Solanum torvum Swartz. and is distributed widely in tropical and south of China. It is a commonly used Chinese herb and has been proven to be effective in the treatment of blood stasis, menstruation, edema pain and cough. In order to exploit the natural resources of the genus from China, In this dissertation, studies on the pharmacognosy of Solanum torvum Swartz. by microscopic characters, character identification and physicochemical identification.we study the chemical constituents of the radix of Solanum torvum Swartz. . Seven compounds have been isolated by using open-column, preparative TLC methods et al. All of them had been identified structures according to the spectrum characters (1HNMR, 13CNMR, UV, IR, MS) and chemical properties. They are respectively montanic acid (1), eicosanic acid(2), stigmasterol(3),β-sitosterol(4),ρ-hydroxybe-nzcic acid(5), esculetin(6),β-daucosterol(7).1, 2 ,5, 6were isolated from this plant for the first time.
