Gastroesophageal reflux disease (gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD) is a disease that refers to the anti-flow of stomach contents into the esophagus, causing upset symptoms and (or) complications. Epidemiological studies in China showed that the prevalence rate of GERD was 10.19% in Beijing, 7.76 % in Shanghai, 2.3% of community groups in Guangdong Province and 16.98% in Xi'an, from which it can be seen that GERD is one of the common and frequently-occurring diseases.GERD belongs in the categories of TCM such as "nausea", "acid regurgitation", "acid regurgitation" and so on . This paper probes into the TCM knowledges on the etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment methods of GERD in both ancient and modern times.I summarize that stagnated heat of Liver and Stomach & incoordination between Liver and Stomach are the main syndromes of GERD,stagnation of Liver Qi, Stomach failing to propel downwards, reversed flow of Qi are the key ccurrences of GERD and it locates in the Spleen and Stomach and is closely related to the liver function of conveyance and dispersion. The paper also reviews the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of the status quo of GERD in modern medicine.Combined with my instructor's clinical experience for many years,I explore the theoretical and practical significances of reconciling Shaoyang method in GERD treatment, as to expand the modern clinical applications of classical prescriptions and search for an effective treatment method.
