[object] Through the use of the queue, placebo-controlled study of methods, in southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, a total of 220 cases of osteoporosis patients were studied retrospectively to compare Chinese and Western medicines with the degree of improvement and their own advantages in the treatment of osteoporosis.[method] A total of 220 cases collected in line with selection criteria of osteoporosis patients, divided into 110 cases of Chinese medicine treatment group taking Gui-Lu-Er-Xian Decoction (pills) and western medicine placebo-controlled group taking Fosamax. To observe the patients taking the drug before and after the degree of improvement of clinical symptoms. The subjects were arranged to collect fasting venous blood, for analysing ALP, CA, P, TC, TG, HDL, LDL and other blood biochemical data. And using Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) were examined spine, hip, femur neck and other parts of the bone mineral density. Finally, the clinical information and data obtained used statistical analysis software SPSS 13.0 to process.[result] Two groups of postmenopausal osteoporosis patients, their ALP treated for one to three years fell rapidly (P<0.01). CA, P treated for one to three years increased gradually (P> 0.05), not statistically significant, but the CA concentration were treated with the Chinese medicines increased (P<0.05), the efficacy was more outstanding. TC, LDL, CHOL/HDL, LDL /HDL treated for one to three years fell rapidly (P<0.01). HDL treated for one to three years increased rapidly (P<0.01). TG were increased three years after treatment with the drug (P <0.05). L-spine (PA), Hip (Neck), Forearm (Global), their bone density were increased three years after treatment with the drug (P<0.05), indicating the two groups has a good therapeutic effect, of which Chinese medicine treatment group has the more prominent performance (P <0.01).[Conclusion] Use clinical data to explore the therapeutic effect of Gui-Lu-Er-Xian Decoction (pills), whether the effect is better than Fosamax in the treatment of osteoporosis. The comparisons of the two groups data (P> 0.05), no significant difference, indicating Gui-Lu-Er-Xian Decoction (pills) in clinical efficacy was comparable with Fosamax together to benefit patients. Further analysis showed that Fosamax can get better rapidly therapeutic effect after one year, while the Gui-Lu-Er-Xian Decoction (pills) gradually play a good therapeutic effect after three years, indicating traditional Chinese medicines despite a slow onset, but the performance is getting better and better. To measure parts of L-spine (PA) derived from BMD showed, Chinese medicine treatment group's bone mineral density increase 1.02% for one year after treatment, bone mineral density increase substantially 2.33% for three years after treatment. Western medicine placebo-controlled group's bone mineral density increase effectively 1.18% for one year after treatment, bone mineral density increase slightly 1.82% for three years after treatment. Gui-Lu-Er-Xian Decoction (pills) can improve clinical symptoms, improve bone mineral density, reducing fractures, mainly for the application of Chinese medicines to provide effective prevention and treatment of osteoporosis related basis.
