Objectives:(1) To indentify the socio-demographic characteristics, AIDS awareness and personal sexual behaviors of Female Sex Workers (FSWs) in Urumqi; (2) To explore Urumqi FSWs'willings of pre-exposure (PrEP) prophylaxis for AIDS and the underlying factors; (3) to study the needs of FSWs for PrEP. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was undertaken in selected the entertainment places in one district, Urumqi City, FSWs who participated voluntarily in the survey were asked for face to face interviews and filling in the questionnaires anonymously. The single-factor analysis and logistic regression analysis were used for data analysis with SPSS 18.0 software. Results:(1) 433 FSWs were investigated, with the average age of 25.32±5.24 years old. The overall awareness rate about AIDS transmission and prevention was 77.55%,with 87.85% commercial sex condom usage; (2) 59.12% persons expressed their willingness to participate in the use of PrEP. Believing that they had no risk for HIV infection and fearing of the drugs'side effects were the main resasons for precluding them from accepting PrEP. Logistic regression analysis showed that the assessment of AIDS affection themselves and attitudes towards HIV/ AIDS were also the main factors influnencing their willings for PrEP; (3) Their main concerns about of PrEP were mainly drugs safety, effectiveness and costs, there are 35.55% of FSWs thought that they would be discriminated if they used; 67.06% of FSWs were willing to pay more than 100 yuan / month for PrEP;71.62% people were willing to use PrEP every day;11.94% of FSWs would appear the disinhibition sexual activity,57.42% showed their willing to get PrEP through the medical staff,to gain the drugs from the local CDC and hospital.Conclusions:(1) There was a higher rate of AIDS awareness and condom usage for FSWs in Urumqi. (2) PrEP is well accepted among the FSWs population. Fearing of the drugs'reliabilitysafety, the assessment of AIDS affection themselves and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS were the main factors influnencing their willings for PrEP. (3) FSWs mainly concerned about the PrEP safety, effectiveness and costs. |
