Viewed from the methods of study, for a long time, too much emphasis has been laid upon the study of pronunciation to the neglect of that of grammar and lexical words , but the deviations are now gradually being reversed; and the main trend of the methods of study is gradually being shifted from general description to probing various kinds of phenomena and laws of dialects. As far as the study of Hunan dialects is concerned, as it is known, Hunan is rich in intricate dialects, but it is a pity that the researches done on them are far away from adequate. The following explains the reasons why I decided to study the several grammatical phenomena of the Mabujiang dialect (e.g. 1. several sentencepatterns of the Mabujiang dialect; 2. sone of its auxiliaries; 3. theword - formation of its adjectives) in this thesis:1) this dialect is my mother tongue, therefore it is easier for me to study it overall and deeply, and it is especially beneficial to the study of the weak link of studying dialects, i. e. the study of grammar; 2) the Xiang dialect is the second station for Chinese to develope regionally from the northern China to the southern China;3)there are rich linguistic phenomena in this dialect. The studies in this thesis are done by means of describing this dialet at first, making a comparison between dialects, and finally analyzing its linguistic theory. The thesis will be hellpful in grasping the whole history of Chinese laguage , making a comparison between dialects, studying the theory of general linguistics and editing the dictionary of the local dialects and thelocal chronicles, as well as in the Hunanese' s learning the Chinese common speech. The thesis will study the characteristics of the handled sentences, the sentences with a complement, those with double objects, the comparative sentences , and the passive voice. The marked characteristics of these five sentence patterns in this dialect are respectively stated asfoflows: 1) in the handled sentences, the frequency of the two sentence patterns, whether its preposition is situated before or after its object, is almost the same. The object can even be moved to the beginning of. the sentence while the preposition continues to be in the original position. 2) In the sentences with a complement, the following three pairs of sentence patterns, aYV(verb) + 0 (object) +C(complement)"and "V+ C+ 0", b)"V+ 0+ C" and "V+ 0+ V+ C", c)"V+ A (attribute) + 0"and "V + 0 + V + C", are synonymic sentence patterns. 3) In the sentences with double objects, the preposition' ~ [ t~' i ~" which is in front of the indirect object is somewhat similar to the preposition"~" (to/with) of Chinese common speech, but viewed from a different angle, they are different. In the sentences with double objectives, the two sentence patterns, "V +(verb) +D0(direct object) + I0(indirect object)" and "V+ D0+ V+ 10", are synonymic sentence patterns. ~4) In the comparative sentences, the function word [ ti ~ in the comparative sentences and that (I ~e] in the sentences of positive degree are comparatively peculiar. 5) As for the passive voice sentences without an agent, the difference between this dialect and common speech lies in that there are not any prepositions indicating its passive voice in this dialect while the prepositions marking passive voice are nonessential in common speech. The third section of this chapter studies the two linguistic phenomena " repetition" and "discontinuous repetition" in this dialect. The repetition of this dialect is somenhat similar to the3reduplication of word - formation and to the repetition of rhetoric in common speech, but viewed from the form, the frequency , and the grammatical meaning of the repetition, the "repetition" is different from the "reduplication"and the "continuous repetition". The sentence pattern and the grammatical meaning of the discontinuous reptition are specific and single, and the discontinuous repetition of this dialect is different from the reduplication of word - formation and the repetition of rhetoric. Because the...
