Acquired by way of learning, social skills are manners of activities in which an individual can interact with other people efficiently and properly in given social situations. As a sort of skill, it is a set of behavior manners acquired from environment by an individual in the course of his growing to maturity, instead of being a universal personality trait. Social skills can, to a large extent, determine an individual's social relationship with other people, his possibility of success in his career, and his degree of satisfaction with social life. A lot of studies show that social skills in childhood have marked short-term or long-term aftereffects. Children with good skills have good self-sense, behave themselves well at school. Therefore they are more adaptable. On the other hand, children with a defect of social skills often have difficulties in their study, or conduct themselves badly. What's more, they are more likely to fall into adverse conditions in their adulthood. It is on the basis of these studies that people come to know the essentiality of social skills. Many researchers begin to explore means by which children can acquire social skills.Peers group coaching or training can help children gain important social skills that can not be gained from adults by the same means. Group-play-training is often used as a way of children education. Folk play has been children's favorite due to its particular interest and amusement function. Folk play training is an integrated means of social skills training composed of speech coaching, model demonstrating, behavior drilling, social strengthening, and so on. This means is extremely operational both in theory and in practice. The research uses natural experimental means, adopting 2x6 bi-factor random experiment design. Factor A is training mode, comprising two levels: A1, serial folk play training activities, i.e. experiment group; A2, non-folk play training activities, i.e. control group (in which training methods, such as dancing, singing and story-telling areused). Factor B is grade, comprising six levels: B1, the bottom class in a kindergarten; B2, the middle class in a kindergarten; B3, the top class in a kindergarten; B4, the grade one in an elementary school; B5, the grade two in an elementary school; B6 ,the grade three in an elementary school. The study shows:(1) Folk play training is effective in improving the social skills of three to nine-year-old children. As a means of social skills training, folk play training can markedly improve the social skills of three to nine-year-old children. After folk play training, the children's total scores as well as each item's score of social skills are notably improved, which forms a sharp contrast with the control group. What's more, their play level has also been raised in general. The two aspects can serve to demonstrate the effect of folk play training because social skills are notably positive related to play level.(2) Folk play training eliminate the sexual difference of the grade two in an elementary school. Folk play training has the same effect on both sexes of else grades, so both boys and girls can be benefited from it.(3) Folk play training has the same effect on different grade infants, But folk play training has different effect on different grade pupils. And the grade two in an elementary school may be more easily influenced by folk play training.(4) Folk play training is little effected by children's initial play level. After training, children's play level has been improved in general. Infants of different sociality type are influenced by folk play training in different degree. The popular infant is more easily influenced by folk play training than the rejected infant. Folk play training eliminate the difference of the average children and the neglected children. Pupils of else sociality type are influenced by folk play training in the same degree. Folk play training's effect on pupils is little influenced by their peer type.
