Miluo dialect is a part of the Xiang group in Chang-Yi region. It gains both the representative characteristics of the Xiang group in Chang-Yi-region and its own specialty. Based on the extensive fieldwork, this paper gives a comprehensive description to the phonology of the outskirts of Miluo county, which provides credible first-hand materials to Miluo dialect research. Comparison made between Miluo dialect and the mid-ancient phonology posts its evaluative law of phonetic characteristic. Through the comparison among Miluo dialect and dialect in the nearby area like Changsha and Xiangyin, the commonness of Chang-Yi dialect and the specialty of Miluo dialect presented. It fills up the blankness of Miluo dialect research and settles the basic for the further research of the inner difference of the Xiang group.This paper falls into six parts.Chapter 1: Introduction in this part includes Miluo's geographical location, population, historical evolution, general situation of dialect used in Miluo, general research situation of Miluo dialect, the emphases and significance of this paper.Chapter 2: The initial consonants system, final consonants system, tone system and their conjugating connection are introduced.Chapter 3: Through the three aspects of initial consonants, final consonants and tone, it discussed the phonetic peculiarity of Miluo dialect, as well as variant pronunciation in literary reading and colloquial reading in the dialect.Chapter 4: Miluo dialect homonym offers the first-hand materials for studying Miluo dialect phonology system.Chapter 5: Through the three aspects of initial consonants, finalconsonants and tone, comparison is made between Miluo phonology and mid-ancient phonology in Miluo to study its law of evolution of phonology and its exception.Chapter 6: Comparison among Miluo dialect, Changsha dialect and Xiangyin dialect opens out the commonness of Chang-Yi region dialect and the specialty of Miluo dialect.
