On The Modal Particles In Chengdu Dialect

The rich modal particles is one of the big characters in Chinese, while it also plays an important role in Chengdu dialect. It is a main means for Chengdu people to express their emotions in daily life. Compared to common character of the Northern dialect, the modal particles in Chengdu dialect shows its own character, which provide us with special research value.We mainly use daily spoken language to summarize the system of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect by studying its function and pursuing the full description and the synthesis comparison on the basis of synchronic plane.This thesis is divided into four chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction, which briefly introduces Chengdu and Chengdu dialect firstly, then presents the reasons for choosing the name of"modal particles", the history of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect and the possibility of the new study. In addition, it explains the study object, the source of materials and the study methods. Finally, it lists the explanation in the thesis.Chapter 2 is the research on the grammar of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect. It should be based on reasonable classification, therefore including the principle of combining significance and function, the modal particles in Chengdu dialect is divided into three types.A. Aspect modal particle: Duo(哆),Kan/Kankan(看/看看),Dei(å¾—₁),Lo(了)The appearance of these modal particles can signify the aspect obviously in the sentences, so we call it"Aspect modal particle".B. Interrogative modal particle: Wa(哇₁),A(å•Š),So(å—¦),Ha(哈₁),Ma(嘛₁),Ga(嘎)These modal particles are used to pass on the query information at the end of the sentence, without which cannot compose queries tone.C. Modality modal particle: Ni(çš„),Dei(å¾—₂),Dei(å¾—₃),Qielo(去了),Ha(哈₂),San(　),Ma(嘛₂),Deima(得嘛),An(å’¹),O(哦₁),O(哦₂),Sei(å™») These modal particles, which give the emotional attitude to the sentence, express the fact as well as subjective mood.One this base, we obtained three tables and one diagram about the modal particles in Chengdu dialect, which are"Aspect modal particle concise table","Interrogative modal particle concise table","Modality modal particle concise table"and"the axes of Interrogative modal particle"by describing these there groups of modal particles separately.Considering that the modal particles in Chengdu dialect can be used at the end of compound sentence, we will use the classified method and the conclusion of Huang Guoying(1994)to check and prove these three groups in the article, and finally explain that most of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect are P:B.Most of the modal particles can be used successively and the modal particle in Chengdu dialect is not an exception. We analyzed the condition of the two-used as well as the three-used modal particles in Chengdu dialect, and the new meanings that are generated by using together.Chapter 3 is about functional research on the modal particles in Chengdu dialect. It analyzed the function of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect from the plane perspective of semantics, syntax and pragmatics.From the perspective of semantics, it mainly shows in the aspects of information and question, which completed the table reading information and question of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect systematic theory by using systematic theory.From the perspective of syntax, it mainly shows in the aspect of the function of completing the sentence. Under many circumstances, only when they exist, the sentence can be valid, show the facts and express feelings.From the perspective of pragmatics, it can be mainly represented in the aspects of speech acts,conversation implicature,textual. In Chengdu Dialect, the use of the modal particles is not simply the express of tone, while it may have meaning beyond language itself. Especially in the whole article, pause and reference are even the main means.Chapter 4 is Conclusion. After comparing the grammer and function of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect, we summarize the characteristics of it. The integral part is the construction of the system of the modal particles in Chengdu dialect. So by getting down to the form, we have talked about the distribution and function, taken a try of great significance as well.
