As the great collector of Chinese traditional culture before Song Dynasty, Su shi, the all-rounder, was prolific in aesthetic thoughts. The thesis aims at systematically combing and analyzing his aesthetic thought of"Shang yi"so as to make an useful exploration into the modern transformation of Chinese ancient Aesthetics."Shang yi"consists of connotations at least on three levels which are related with each other:"Sheng","Xin","Shi"。on the first level,"Sheng"is Sushi's pursuit in terms of aesthetic taste and art, that is, the free and vital life world produced by the integration of vigorous life spirit of people and the energetic life force of nature, which derived from Su shi's view of philosophy. He considers, Daoism is comprehensive and"can be achieved but not be pursued". Therefore, it is perceived through the concepts like"Yi","Yin Yang"and so on."Yi"is fundamentally characterized with"Sheng Sheng". Art, such as poem, literature, book and painting, is the measure taken to express and impart Daoism. So, the art world that Sushi sought for is the animate world synthesizing the lives of selves into temporal and his works abound in"Sheng", full of lives and animation. On the second level,"Xin"is Su shi's pursuit in terms of aesthetic taste and creation, which comprised two aspects:"The old are regarded as the new", that is, the"Xin"based on"Shang Fa"of Tang Dynasty;"The changes are regarded as the new", that is, changing the"Fa"of Tang Dynasty with"my idea"——from"Wu Fa"to"Wu Fa Zhi Fa".On the third level,"Shi"is the attitudes taken by Su shi towards the aesthetic taste and life, which resulted from the adjustment, balancing and deepening of his frustrating experience, the use-it-for-me spirit as well as the thoughts formed by integrating"Confucianism","Buddhism"and"Daoism"instead of being innately existent."Wutai Poem Case"exerted an tremendous impact on Su's thoughts and life attitudes and can be considered as an vital turning point in his life. Since Empress Dowager Gao was dead and Zhe Zong came into power, Su Shi's was again prosecuted and demoted to Huizhou and Qiongzhou, which badly influence his thoughts and life. Hence, Sushi's life experience and aesthetic life attitudes are divided into three periods: Pre- Huangzhou period of"express the meaning by things"; Huangzhou period of"acclimatizing himself to discomfort"; Lingnan period of"going along with freedom". Finally, he attains the mental freedom of"accommodating to any circumstances and settling down anywhere".
