A Study On Chinese Phonograms Based On Chinese-teaching As A Foreign Language

This thesis takes The Outline of Chinese Teaching to Oversea Students (for long term study) (The Outline) as the base. The author of the thesis tries to make an overall statistical analysis of the pictophonetic element and the phonetic element of pictophonetic characters in The Outline, to summarize the characteristcs of the pictophonetic characters and to expolre a scientific and effective method of Chinese-character teaching to oversea students.The main part of this thesis is composed of five parts. Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the status quo and the problems of pictophonetic characters in the process of teaching Chinese to oversea students, as well as the purpose and the significance of the thesis.Chapter Two cocsists of a brief introduction to The Outline ,its Chinese character list as well as the enlisted pictophonetic characters.Chapter Three is the analysis of pictophonetic elements of the pictophonetic charactersin The Outline. The author of the thesis counts the pictophonetic elements, frequently used pictophonetic elements and non-frequently used pictophonetic elements, analyzes whether pictophonetic elements can be characters themselves and studies the extent to which pictophonetic elements convey meanings.Chapter Four is the anaysis of phonetic elements of the pictophonetic characters in The Outline. The author of the thesis counts the phonetic elements, analyzes the common and the uncommon phonetic elements and the propotion of phonetic elements which signals pronunciation and studies whether phonetic elements can form a charater.Chapter Five focuses on exploring a scientific method to guide the Chinese-character teaching to the oversea students. The author of the thesis presents an analysis of the overall characteristcs of the pictophonetic characters in The Outline and points out that the knowledge about pictophonetic characters should be attached importance to in teaching Chinese to oversea students.
