Phonological Research On Taoyuan Dialect

The language in Hunan province is complex which include Chinese dialects such as xiang dialects,gan dialects, mandarin, Hakka and dialects that system is not clear such as patois, Township words and minority languages such as Yao Language,Zhuang Language. The southwest mandarin is the second largest dialect in Hunan province. It distributes in Changde,Cili,Huarong of the north of Hunan Province, and Jieshou,Fenghuang,Zhongfang,Jingzhou,Xinhuang of the west of Hunan Province, and Yongzhou,Chenzhou of the south of Hunan Province. It belongs to the second largest dialect in Hunan province,but the research about it still remains very weak.There are also quite a few points about the dialects need to be investigated. And it lacks overall study. The dialect of Taoyuan county which locates at the north of Hunan Province lacks systematic research.Monographs and even the theses about Taoyuan dialect are far less than enough. The reseach about other dialects of the North of Hunan Province focus on the phone.It mainly describes initial, final, tone of one place,or discusses some phonetic features such as Colloquial Readings, retroflexion,qingsheng.There has no thesis about comparison inside Xiangbei mandarin and overall comparison study about whole Hunan Province. Therefore the author chose Taoyuan as the starting point,and had a systematic and deep reseach about the phonetics of Taoyuan county,Huangshi,Xuejiachong,Guniushan,which based on the local investigation.In addition,a comparison will be made between Taoyuan dialect and other dialects which also belong to Xiangbei mandarin. And make a overall comparison study about Xiangbei mandarin,Xiangxi mandarin,Xiangnan mandarin.In this thesis,I do my best to reveal the true face of Taoyuan dialect and southwest mandarin in Hunan province to enrich the production of the southwest mandarin in Hunan province.The full thesis falls into six parts altogether.The introduction part shows us the geography,the condition of Hunan Province and the southwest mandarin's distribution in Hunan Province. It introduces the present studies on the southwest mandarin in Hunan Province,as well as the overview of the geography,language of the four regions of Taoyuan and main purpose and the method of our research.The first chapter describes initial, final, tone system of four regions of Taoyuan southwest mandarin and compares four regions with the middle ancient's pohonological system.The second chapter analyses the inside consistency and difference of Taoyuan southwest mandarin in terms of initial, final, tone.The third chapter analyses the inside consistency and difference of Xiangbei mandarin in terms of initial, final, tone.The fourth chapter analyses the difference of Hunan mandarin in terms of initial, final, tone.The rest part discusses contact in Xiangxi and Xiangnan mandarin and analyses the concrete expression of contact in the form of borrowing,withering,mix,diglossia and so on.
