Objectives: The aims of this study were to compile self-rating scale of psychological resilience for high school students and to evaluate its reliability and validity and to know the level of psychological resilience of students in high school in Hefei. Methods: Firstly, based on the model of the Resilience of Youth Development Module, the self-rating scale was designed to be six dimensions of 36 items. The items pre-testing of the scale above was conducted to develop the original scale among students of one class of high school and one class of senior high school in the urban and the rural in Hefei.Secondly, the original Self-Rating Scale of psychological Resilience was pretesting among high school students in Hefei. A total of 2481 students were recruited to pre-test the self-rating scale composed of 30 items from grade one of high school to grade three of senior high school by stratified-cluster sampling method. The self-rating scale of 28 items was eligible for the resilience scale by item analysis, factor analysis, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and construct validity. Finaly, the survey was conducted in four high schools in Hefei and two of them in the urban and other two in the rural. Totally, 4287 high school students participated in the survey. The content of the survey included demographic characteristics, rating psychological resilience and depression symptoms and dysfunctional attitudes. Results: The items of No. 3,9,13,20,25,34 were deleted according to item pre-testing in both grade one of middle school and of senior school. The original self-rating scale was pretested, which composed of 30 items including six dimensions of self-efficacy, problem solving, collaboration and communication, self-awareness, goal and desire, empathy, 5 items for each dimension. The pretesting results from factor analysis and item analysis of the psychological resilisence scale show that the factor loading of No.23 and No.25 item less than 0.4 and should be deleted. So the original 30 items of the self-rating scale was modified to be 28 items of scale including six dimensions of self-efficacy, problem solving, collaboration and communication, self-awareness, goals and desire, empathy. The self-rating scale of psychological resilience scale which including 28 items was pretested among 2481 students. The results show that means of each item among 2.61~4.23 and the standard deviations between 1.0~1.24. The correlate coefficient of each item score associated with the total score of the scale ranged 0.323~0.650. The Cronbach's alpha of the scale was 0.92. The correlate coefficients of factor score with total score were more than 0.55 (P <0.01). The test-retest reliability was 0.89 among 208 students in pre-and post- two weeks. The coefficient of Cronbach alpha was 0.91, the coefficient of Split-half was 0.84, and test-retest reliability was 0.89. All of correlate coefficients of factor scores with total score were more than 0.613, and higher than those between the factor scores. There score of the self-rating scale of psychological resilience was associated significantly with score of CDI. The boys'score of psychological resilience scale is higher than the girls', and the score who lived in city is more than who lived in rural area. The score of the twelfth grade students is less than the others grades students. Multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that the score of psychological resilience scale was significantly related to academic record, depressive symptoms. Conclusion: The self-rating scale of psychological resilience of high school students possesses high validity and reliability. The cut off for psychological dys-resilience needs to be determined in studying further.
