This thesis explores the laws of Chinese reading teaching based on the present state of Chinese teaching in China and the achievements made in research on reading. The author maintains that meaningful learning in reading teaching is a process in which the students establish connection, find connection and cheat conduction inreading activities under the teacher's guidance. In the process the students contract themeaning of the text and express themselves. The students learn how to find out problems, probe into problems and solve problems based on the prior knowledge, so it is an initiative learning process of significance and value.This thesis explores the theoretical basis of meaningful learning in reading teaching awarding to Amusable meaningful learning theories Rogers significant learning theories and constructivism learning theories. The author holds that meaning learning in reading teaching is a process in which the students construct meanings on their own initiative create connection and transfer the usage with the teacher's help.It is discussed in this thesis that meaningful learning in Chinese reading teaching helps to improve the teaching efficiency, foster the students' quality in language and literature and promote their full development. The author holds that the teacher is supposed to stimulate the students' initiative, enthusiasm and creativity by taking these measures: respecting the students' subject position; performing dialogues between the teacher and students in a fair way; reforming learning manner; leading students to learning, finding and exploring on their own initiative.The prerequisite to meaningful learning is to accumulate knowledge and experience. Meaningful learning can't carry on without the accumulation of source material, basic knowledge and skills. At the same time, meaningful learning prompts the accumulation of source material, basic knowledge and skills. In classroom reading teaching, the students are encouraged to learn and explore on their own initiative. Then they will pick out the valuable knowledge andinformation, discover the connections and knotty problems and raise questions of significance. The problems can be solved through cooperation and discussion. The teachers' duty is to be a helper and organizer, helping the students connect present learning situation with prior knowledge or experience, enriching their knowledge and experience and solving the knotty problems. Thus the teacher will promote the students' constructing the meaning of the text.Meaningful learning in reading teaching is an efficient way of learning and can be operated easily. In this way the students connect the gained knowledge and experience with new information, constrict meaning of the text, accelerate their understanding and absorption of the information in Ihe text, and develop their skills and abilities.In a word, in order to accumulate the efficiency in reading teaching and improve the students' accomplishment in Chinese, middle school students are expected to accumulate rich knowledge and experience and carry on meaningful learning.
