Objective:Sheganmahuangtang added with Radix Bupleuri and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi are commonly used in clinic, however, the effectiveness and safety still remain unclear. The research took it to cure the patients with cold asthma type, and then compare the improvement of TCM symptoms, TCM symptom score of wheezing, score of asthma control questionnaire and score of asthma quality of life questionnaire. At last, we could evaluate the effectiveness and safety of this decoction and discuss progress of the symptoms, hoping that the research can provide some useful references for the clinical treatment.Methods:60 patients, in this randomized controlled trial (RCT), having cold asthma type, were divided into two groups with 30 samples for each. Patients in treatment group were treated with Sheganmahuangtang and Radix Bupleuri and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, while patients in control group were treated with Sheganmahuangtang. After one-week treatment, all the index were well recorded, including the changes of TCM symptoms, score of TCM symptom, ACQ6 and AQLQMarks. All of the index mentioned above was evaluate by frequency statistics, chi-square test, t-test and so onResults:1. After one-week treatment, the TCM symptom scores of wheezing in treatment group was 0.76±0.79 and 1.30±0.79 in control group. The scores of two groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The effectiveness of treatment group was better than control group in decreasing TCM symptom scores (P<0.05).2. After treatment, the TCM symptom scores of pursiness in treatment group was 0.86±0.58 and 1.20±0.61 in control group. The scores of two groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The effectiveness of treatment group was better than control group in decreasing TCM symptom scores (P<0.05).3. The incidence of disorder of Shuji Syndrome was 6.9% in the treatment group and 30% in the control group. The effectiveness of treatment group is better than control group in decreasing incidence of the harmful change of syndrome (P<0.05).4. After treatment, the ACQ6 scores in treatment was 5.69±3.43 and in the control group was7.33±2.76. The scores of two groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The effectiveness of treatment group is better than control group in decreasing ACQ6 (P<0.05).5. After treatment, the AQLQ scores in treatment were 16.17±10.45 and in the control group was 21.10±7.94. The scores of two groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The effectiveness of treatment group is better than control group in decreasing AQLQ (P<0.05).6. The response rates of two groups were significantly increased, which in the treatment group was 83.3% and 56.7% in control group. The effectiveness of treatment group is better than control group up in increasing response rate (P<0.05).7. During therapy, there is no adverse event observed in either group. Conclusions:Sheganmahuangtang added with Radix Bupleuri and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and Sheganmahuangtang can improve the symptoms, control mild and moderate asthma exacerbation to some extent, and improve quality of life. What’s more, the effectiveness of Sheganmahuangtang added with Radix Bupleuri and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is better than Sheganmahuangtang and it can prevent the changes of TCM symptoms to some extent. In addition, Sheganmahuangtang added with Radix Bupleuri and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is safe. However, due to the short test time, the study can only suggest that it is effective and safe in a short time. The long-term effectiveness and safty still need further exploration.
