A Study On The Phonetic Study Of The Dialect Island

Pucheng Ou dialect island is located in Cangnan County of Wenzhou City which the border area between Zhejiang and Fujian. It is the southernmost distribution area of Wu dialect and surrounded by Min dialect. The purpose of this paper that takes Pucheng Ou dialect island as the research object is:first, to describe in details the phonetic system of Pucheng Ou dialect and Provide informative dialect data. In the present study of Pucheng Ou dialect,we have not seen a complete and detailed phonetic material, so this paper is a supplement. Second, to further improve the system of Wu dialect reaserch by the study of Pucheng Ou dialect which is the southernmost distribution area of Wu dialect. Third, to provid some fresh language materials for dialect contact reaserch and become a window for us to observe dialect contact and dialect development.This paper consists of five chapters. Chapter One introduces the geography, history, population source,dialect situation of Pucheng to provide a reference for the study of the formation and evolution of the Pucheng Ou dialect island. Chapter Two begins with describing the Pucheng Ou dialect phonetic system, and then makes a comparison between Pucheng Ou dialect with phonology Guang Yun to trace the evolution and sort out medieval Chinese phonetic source of Pucheng Ou dialect. Chapter Three through the comparison between Pucheng Ou dialect with other dialects:other Ou dialect around, North Wu dialect as well as Min dialect in Southern Zhejiang Province, finally speculate the trajectory of Pucheng Ou dialect evolution. Chapter Three is on the basis of the former three chapters, from the perspective of dialect contact to discuss the evolution of Pucheng Ou dialect island development process. Chapter Five is the conclusion.According to the investigation and analysis, Pucheng was formed in Ming dynasty because of garrison. In Soldiers stationed, the local account for large proportion, but also has a part from the North Wu dialect area. The formation of Pucheng Ou dialect, as a lingua franca in Pucheng, is the outcome of Koineization. Then, Pucheng Ou dialect was surrounded by Min dialect to form an Ou dialect island. Pucheng Ou dialect island has many phonological characteristics of Oujiang dialect,Wu dialect. At the same time, because of its history background and surrounding, Pucheng Ou dialect island also comes with some phonetic characteristics of North Wu dialect and a little phonetic characteristics of Min dialect in Southern Zhejiang Province.
