In the changing economic environment, project management becomes more and more complex, also make the project manager for project management tasks facing unprecedented challenges. As the core of project management, project managers need a high emotional intelligence to deal with the relationship in the different parties, but engineering field hasspecial properties while compared with emotional intelligence in other fields of research, the empirical study between the project manager’s emotional intelligence and project performance is not comprehensive. Therefore, this thesis reseach the relationshipbetween the project manager’s social competenciesand the project performancefrom the perspective of emotional intelligence.This article summarizes the project manager’s emotional intelligence, social competencies, project performanceon the basis of relevant theories, take four dimensions of the project manager social skills and project performance as the research object, respectively, we determinethe relationship between thesocial competencies of the four dimensions and project performance what the role of the path, assumes that the conceptual model is established. Then, by the method of questionnaire survey, using field interviews and E-mail survey methods such as payment and collection questionnaire, received 220 valid questionnaires. Finally using descriptive analysis, reliability and validity analysis and SEM verification, discusses the project manager ability to social impact on project performance. Through empirical research, it is concluded that, the relationship between the project manager of the four dimensions and project performance has a positive effect, including the management of stakeholders ability had the greatest influence on project performance. For the training and selection of project manager, we proposed to the project manager to carry out emotional intelligence and social competencies training, improve the ability to work with others, attach great importance to the cultivation of leadership ability of others and social awareness, enhance the ability for the interests of the stakeholder management, so as to improve project performance.
