Research On Deconstruction And Parametric Design Of Chinese Characters

As the specific symbols of information transformation, Chinese characters have experienced numerous novation of styles. The functions of them have changed from practice to the balance of practice and aesthetics. Chinese characters have changed from ideographic hieroglyphs into pictophonetic characters with informedness and aesthetics.The development of the technology of electronic screen promoted the renovation of reading method and benefited the technology of information communication. The fonts of Chinese characters are meeting the requirements of aesthetics and personalization of users. The designers should balance the practical applicability and the individualized demands.The rapid development of technology and the changes in reading ways have promoted the research related to Chinese characters. The Chinese characters have various cultural connotation and visual features, which provide the designers wide space to research.In this thesis, Chinese characters are discussed in four hierarchies, which are character, component, stroke and drawing. For providing a new rational and personalized design method for Chinese characters,3 kinds of parameters as shape parameters, structure parameters and effect parameters of Chinese characters are defined. Parametric Design System and the relevant application prototype is established, which is based on the rule of form and structure of Chinese characters, and the analysis of application interface characteristics. This would be a new structured design method which is not only rational but also individual for the users。In the process, it was tested and considered on some elements which would have influences on parametric design, so that the range of these elements could be verified.A new method of Chinese character design is established, which is a tentative attempt. This method is formed from structure to shape and from general to detail. Based on the ideas of the parametric design and the analysis of interaction features of the application, the prototype of the application is created. Then, the parametric design of Chinese characters can mark the information dissemination with a personal imprint in the context of modern technology and culture.
