Out of all the special skills training courses in teaching Chinese as a second language, reading course is an important one, which can cultivate students’reading habit and it is the main path for them to acquire independent reading ability as well. The choosing of textbook is of most importance in the teaching of reading course in teaching Chinese as a second language because the whole teaching process is carried out with the text in the center. While the quality of the texts in the textbook would have a direct impact on the using of the textbook and the teaching results. Thus the selecting of text type is vital to the improving of learners’ reading capacity. The thesis, selecting the reading texts in the book develop Chinese as its study object, analyzed the advantage and disadvantage of this teaching material in terms of the classification, arrangement and the proportion of the texts. What is more, this thesis put forward suggestions towards the study of reading material of teaching Chinese as a second language and the selection and teaching of medium reading material texts according to the compilation principle of reading material, the statistics of texts types and the questionnaire analysis of learners’tendency towards reading material.This thesis is composed of three parts, that is, introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction part points out the reason why the author writes this thesis, research background and theory and demonstrates the value and meaning of the study of the texts types in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. In addition, it also introduces the study objects and methods. The first part of the main body studies the texts from the following four aspects, namely, the classification, the proportion of texts types, how the topic and the subtopic are arranged and the relation and text type and reading skills in higher and medium textbook of develop Chinese. The study of the classification of the texts types is mainly depend on different scholars’work on text type’s classification and the text type’s feature of the book develop Chinese to study the distribution and proportion of the text type in this book. The selection of the text type should follow the suggestion that trying to strike a balance between different topics. In terms of the relation and the text type and reading skills, more attention should be paid in its diversity. More culture communication knowledge should be added and the text topic should be updated and practical. And in the arrangement of the topic and subtopic, the author noticed that the main topic is not wide enough while the subtopic is not rich enough. The second part of the main body, according to learners’ tendency in choosing text type, analyzed the preference and characteristics of learners from different countries. The third part put forward the following advises against the problems occurring in the arrangement of text types in the book develop Chinese and the analysis of the questionnaire which include the proportion of the culture-related topics should be arranged properly, the cultivation of the comprehensive ability should be development-oriented and the supply of related material should be at the help of science and technology. The conclusion part mainly deals with the difficulties and disadvantages during the writing of this paper and also proposed its expectation towards the future study of the text types in the medium reading materials.
