Current land use map is a thematic map which is used for generalizing the land use situation with structure, distribution, type, area and other information in a certain range. It can provide direct basis for urban planning, land renovation, ecological restoration of forest, geological disaster prevention and other government work, which is the basis for the development of various types of land and economy land use planing. When decision makers make plans with different scale maps.If they want to make plans on large-scale planning, they have to a large scale map generalized, in order to achieve the performance of a larger regional land utilization situation. At present, our country county-level land and resources department has large scale map, because drawing comprehensive technical level is limited, the efficiency is low, resulting in land use map updating is poor.To solve the problem between different scale map rapidly changing can be implemented today in the popularity of computer hardware and software for GIS cartographic generalization of automation, summed up the accurate efficient map generalization method.(1)Combined with large data processing and the using of its mapping tool module of ArcGIS software, to explore a methods based on comprehensive rules of priori knowledge cognitive and key methods of mapping, and summed up the advantages and disadvantages of the methods.(2)Analysis the process of the land use map and the comprehensive method of the point, line and surface of the land use data.(3)Combined with the case study, the method is tested. And evaluated the results of the generalization.Validation results show that:this method can be used from1:10000 to 1:1000000 scales map generalization in all levels. But it needs to enrich thegeneralization experiences and build a set of quality inspection system.
