The hydraulic tension experiment mill reformation of The State Key Laboratory of Rolling and Automation (RAL) was discussed as the background. Warm rolling function was added into the experiment mill, and the strip steel warm rolling process and spread model were studied.The main contents are as follows:1. The equipment composition of the hydraulic tension experiment mill and its process characteristics were introduced. A brief introduction was given for the configuration and main functions of the automatic control system.2. A resistance heating system was added for the strip warm rolling process. Analysing the heating system power loss, the transformer rated power was determined by calculating. Temperature calibration of the non-contact infrared thermometers was necessary for the temperature control system during heating. A step by step temperature setting method was developed to improve the uniformity of temperature during heating.3. Through the experiment, study on the factors of the strip steel spread model during warm rolling, the reduction rate, temperature and tension on the impact of spread were totally studied. Experimental results show that a slight tension on the tension has little effect on the spread that can be ignored, and the spread increases with the reduction rate or the temperature increases, the temperature is the largest influence factor in the spread.4. The spread model on the flat roll was modified to obtain a model which was suited to strip steel warm rolling. After experimental verification, the model has a good performance, whose error can be controlled within±10%.5. The soft thickness measure method and its application of the hydraulic tension experiment mill were discussed. The high precision displacement sensors in the tension cylinders on both sides of the mill have detection signal to calculate the strip steel exit thickness each pass, and width variation calculated by the width spread in the principle of constant volume. Practical application shows that the method has high accuracy and good stability.
