This project was proposed based on the study about edge milling machine by Shenyang Better CNC Mechanism co., ltd. This kind of edge milling machine is the special machine that processing the edge of large-scale board. Because the original edge milling machine are mostly manual operation, so the operation is inconvenient and the processing efficiency and the processing precision is relatively low. To realize the automation of machining, the machine needs to research the monitor on the control system and research on the structural improvement.Through introducing and analyzing the defects of previous edge milling machine, improvement project was carried out and mechanical structure was redesigned. Carry roller institutions group, edge milling locating mechanism, broadside push-on organization, pin roller organization and feed mechanism were augmented. Power cutter head was redesigned, parameter calculation were carried out to actuating units,and the actuating units was selected.Control system of board edge milling machine was designed after analyzing working process and control requirement. Three machine tools of edge milling machine were carried out various hardware configurations and software programming designs using S7-300 and S7-200 PLC.The control of board edge milling machine were realized. In addition, EM277 module joined between S7-300 PLC and S7-200 PLC to PROFIBUS-DP communication, data exchange between them came true. Meanwhile, And the three edge milling machine tool through the design of upper computer Win CC monitor screen, realizes edge milling machine remote monitoring.In this paper, the improvement of board edge milling machine structure, design of control system, the communication design between milling machines, and PC monitoring design, improved the processing precision and efficiency, made operation convenient, realized automation and computer remote monitoring.
