As an efficient and clean energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is gaining more popularity with major energy-consuming countries increasing LNG import gradually. By 2015, half of LNG supply in the Asian-Pacific region will be from new LNG production lines. With the development of science and technology, the time for LNG containers transportation has become mature. In America, container trucks and tank cars were used for onshore LNG transportation as early as 1960s. In China, LNG land transportation has a history about 10 years.Although LNG itself is inflammable and its vapor is odorless non-toxic and colorless, casualties and property losses caused by LNG leakage are hard to estimate. Therefore, full knowledge of LNG containers transportation danger analysis are of crucial significance to ensure safe transportation and reduce the probability of accident occurrence and economic losses. This thesis carries out detailed research on safety supervision of LNG containers to offer technical basis to carry out the management for maritime supervision department. To start with, this thesis analyzes relevant international and domestic regulations and policies to determine the structure of LNG containers.Secondly, with consideration given to risk analysis of LNG leakage and the features of LNG containers transportation, analysis of chemical, physical and biological hazards of LNG leakage is conducted to illustrate their causes, generating mechanisms and scopes. Real experiment data from foreign authoritative laboratories are referred to in further analyzing hazard scope, duration and occurrence frequency of LNG leakage in order to divide LNG containers working area into different regions and regulate activities within each region.Thirdly, considering risk analysis of LNG leakage and the features of LNG containers transportation, this thesis divides the latter into various segments and puts forward relevant supervisory process and regulatory rules, thus providing essential basis for ensuring safe LNG containers transportation.
