In recent years, with the development of automobiles industry, electronic products etc., sheet metal forming products remodel more continually, the shape of products are increasingly complicated too, however, the forming pattern of traditional mechanical press is too simplex to meet the demand of modern just-in-time production. Aiming at the disadvantage of mechanical press, this paper proposes a new slide driving structure and press control concept, in which the special positioning module control the position and speed of the slide, so that the slide motion can be discretionarily controlled, it makes the mechanical press produce a variety of workpieces of different technics and materials. The main research contents of this paper are as following:(1) A innovative structure of slide drive system is proposed, the design is that instead of asynchronous motor, high-power permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is adapted to drive the crank-slide system through the gear wheel, the feasibility of this drive structure is analyzed, a method of calculating motor power and torque is established.(2) Proceeding with control demand of the mechanical press with innovative drive system, the whole structure of control system is established, all system hardware and function subsystems are all presented in details.(3) The mathematic model of the slide motion control is established, further more, with the mathematic model, the simulation model based on Simulink software is set up and the simulation experiments are carried out according to the parameters of the servo driven press.(4) According to the demand of press control and monitoring, the press control system software is developed, including logic control program, slide motion control program and monitoring program, all programs had been tested many times and the result achieves the purpose.Lastly, all the researches of this paper are summarized and the further research is listed.
