In the combing process, lap changing and piecing-up is very important for improving its production efficiency and automation degree. So automatic lap-changing and auto-piecing-up mechanisms are vital parts for the combing machine's automation; it also can improve piecing-up quality as well as its production efficiency. Abroad combing machine manufactures have studied the joint technology for a long time. Through the last 20 years of development and improvement it has been becoming more and more mature and perfect, but the study of automatic joint system in comber has just been started in China, and most comber manufacturers only have done some researches on automatic lap changing, such as the combing machine HY68 of Jiangsu Hongyuan textile machinery co.,Ltd. and the comber CM500 of Marzoli (Dongtai) textile machinery co.,Ltd.In this paper, the development of domestic and foreign combing machine in the past 10 years, the research achievements in the automatic system for lap changing and piecing-up, and the development of the industry status quo of China's Comber have been introduced. Based on F1268 combing machine, an overall scheme of the corresponding auto-lap-changing and auto-piecing-up system and the scheme designing was promoted. The joint system can be divided into three modules, which are automatic lap changing, auto-piecing-up, and the suction devices. And yet, every functional module has several sub-modules. So different design schemes can be chosen in accordance with the requirements of these functional modules, and the process of the automatic piecing system can be designed, therefore modular design can be achieved.Some parts of the former combing machine have been modified or redesigned according to the needs of the auto-piecing system's installation and function, and the mechanical systems of the auto-piecing-up equipment has been detailedly designed.This system is mainly driven by cylinders. The diameter and itinerary of the cylinders were chosen in terms of the force and displacement analysis of each function modular.Three-dimensional model of the joint system was built and assembled with SOLIDWORKS. And then, the relevant kinematics simulation of the joint system was processed with the use of virtual prototyping technology.In the last chapter, the research work was summarized and the further work was put forward.
