The Lacquer screen is an important type of screen and one of the oldest furniture in China.Historical records confirm its earliest appearance at Western Zhou Dynasty and as one of the most important bedroom furniture since thousands of years,the ancient lacquer screen had an important function as the symbol of wind,separating space and finally changing to the role of purely decorative interior object.As a result of living conditions and taste,the ancient architecture of the space changed,Chatham screen rooms of the house gradually developed a public character,such as the interior layout of the centre.In Ming and Qing dynasties,the types of lacquer screens are more complex,and the ways of manufacturing are more diverse.Especially the emperors under the centralisation of power supported the arts,such as the palace artisans and the lacquer screen became permanently displayed in the Imperial Palace interior,especially in the Qing Dynasty.The technique of arts and crafts came to a prosperous period in the dynasties of Kang Yong Qing.Therefore, Qing Dynasty is the peak of the development of lacquer screen and represents the highest level in history.This article first traces back the historical sources and the framework of development. combined with a variety of history books,notes,documents and other arts,we focus on the type of the painted screen,its function and decoration in the Ming and Qing dynasties to reveal their characteristics of the time and character of style.We discuss the influence of lacquer screen to the life of modern society and the possibility of its... |
