"Ecological Marxism"has profound social and historical roots and rich theoretical foundation.James·O'Connor's"Ecological Marxism"puts ecology above the traditional Marxism Theory and forms its own unique views. O'Connor's Ecological Marxism includes three aspects: First, O'Connor transforms the theory of traditional historical materialism from the double dimension of nature and culture. He puts up the Ecological Marxist concept of history of the trinity of nature, culture and social labor, and reconstructs historical materialism. Secondly, starting from the second contradiction of capitalism (that is the contradictions between capitalist productive forces, production relations and production conditions), O'Connor makes an ecological criticism to the capitalist mode of production. Thirdly, O'Connor combines the socialism to ecological movements to produce the concept of productive justice-oriented Eco-socialism.O'Connor Ecological Marxism has made enormous theoretical contributions to Marx's historical materialism, including the highlights of the status of nature, the promotion of the status of culture and new perspective of ecological criticism. Meanwhile there are certain theoretical limitations. Ecological crisis, doesn't constitute reasons of the inevitable demise of capitalism, confuses the basic contradictions of capitalism, the non-reality of the ideas of eco-socialism. To interpret O'Connor's Ecological Marxism Theory objectively has an important theoretical and practical significance to promote sustainable development and build a harmonious socialist society.
