With the development of the information technology, human beings entered a learining society. The notions of life-long learining and life-long education have been more and more important, so the requirements for the telents in present society are becoming diversification. Accordingly the demands for the English is growing higher and higher. So both the English teachers and the students pay much attention to the communicative competence. Recently the computer technology and the multi-media technology is beoming more and more advanced and mature, the traditional teaching methods cannot keep pace with the developmen of society, so we must explore actively a new teaching method in such information environmen, that is, the mode of automatic learning. This learning mode can help the college students form a different view of learning and a good learning habbit, consequently the college students may adapt to the information environment easily.Under the guidence of the modern education theory and learing theory, combined the acutal situation in English teaching, the present paper employed the constructivism to do the theory study about the automatic learning. Through the research methods of interviewing and questionnaire, the present paper tried to discover the problems in the college English learing and provides the solution—to teach English in the constructivism mode of multi-media automatic learning. And the paper gave an introduction to this mode, established the virtual platform and constructed the supervisory system for the evaluation of automatic learning. The second point in this paper is to apply this teaching mode to the actual English teaching practice, and kept track of and analyzed the whole teaching procedure. During the study, some problems were found and corrected to perfect this teaching mode. The result is that to teach English in the constructivism mode of multi-media automatic learning can improve students'English competence and their English levels have greatly elevated. So it reaches the expected goal.Finally, the present paper summarized the work and analyzed the problems risen in the process of studying and provided some suggestion to the future study.
