Children's Picture Story Book Language Of Color

Color language is a component of"artistic language"in children's picture storybooks. As one of the most expressive factors in pictures, color language is able to communicate works emotion and create atmosphere. And particular combination of different colors can evoke different psychological responses and special feelings. Each color plays special expressive role in different picture books. Then, what do illustrators of children picture book want to communicate by color? Theories of art and literature should be used to interpret and study color language in children's picture storybooks to further read and understand children's picture storybooks.Because of expanding of the field of children's picture books, this dissertation limits the scope of research topic to"children's picture storybooks"in introduction and briefly introduces the process how color enters children's picture books. The body of the dissertation centers on"children","picture"and"story". Readership of children's picture storybooks are children."An important factor to be considered when children are to choose books is the color of reality", from which they get the first impression of the books. Therefore, the first part, from the angle of"children", discusses narration and application of color language in children's picture storybook, and important influence of children of all ages'physical and psychological development on the choosing color. Pictures in children'picture storybooks are expressive enough to be treated as art works. The second part illustrates the basic elements of color, including hue, lightness, and saturation, and application of these elements in children's picture storybooks. In addition, it also examines synthetically effects of color—tone, which influences and controls the pictures of stories. What children's picture storybooks present are the comprehensive result of interweaving pictures and words. Color language is also for the good of presenting good stories. The third part analyses the role of color language played in portraying character image, manifesting background information, creating atmosphere and revealing theme. Besides, it discusses the combination of color language and word language.Excellent children's picture books broaden children's horizon and influence their way seeing the world. Depth analysis of picture books from the perspectives of literature and art can also evoke new strategies on studying children's picture storybooks, which have a guiding function for the development of children's picture storybooks.
