Ping Fang is a distinguished translator, a learned Shakespearean, an active expert in English Literature and a famous comparatist. As an outstanding translator of foreign literary works, he has his own larruping pursuits in literary translation and literary and comparative studies. His valuable work is very important in the history of translation and comparative literature in China. This thesis makes use of the latest academic achievements and employs the theories and research methods of different disciplines such as Medio-Translatology of Comparative Literature, Communication Studies, Hermeneutics and contemporary translation studies to thoroughly examine the translingual practices of Ping Fang, including his achievements in literary writing, literary studies and literary translation, and explore the interactive relationships between the above-mentioned three and the influence of the translator's subjectivity on his translingual practices, aiming at uncovering the outstanding contributions and academic value of Ping Fang in the history of comparative literature in China.The first chapter mainly examines Ping Fang's literary writings, aiming at discovering the typical qualities of a poet in the context of translingual communication. His literary works include poem writing before 1949 and prose writing after 1949, all of which are an indispensable part of his translingual practice.The second chapter focuses on Ping Fang's work in literary studies, including the study of foreign literatures and comparative literature. It aims to explore the contribution of Ping Fang's interlingual writing especially his comparative studies to the development of comparative literature in China.The third chapter mainly explores Ping Fang's literary translation practices, achievements in this area and the importance of these practices to literary translation and translated literature ofChina.The fourth chapter explores the interactive relationships between Ping Fang's literarytranslation, literary studies and literary writings to uncover the individuality in his translatorial practices and theoretical thoughts about literary translation, and discusses the academic value of these relationships, practices and translator's subjectivity.Finally, the conclusion of this thesis summarizes the importance and value of Ping Fang's translingual practices, hoping to promote further study of Ping Fang's translingual practices and subjectivity, hence draw the attention of Chinese scholars to the Subjectivity and related questions about all the interlingual practitioners in the context of Chinese culture.
