George Gershwin (1898-1937)is one of the most representative composers in the United States. It is his great dedication that perfectly combined the American folk music, the pop music and the traditional classic music from the Europe together. His works propelled forward the American folk music and even the global music in the 20th century, and made the Jazz on the stage of the art. His devotion with the variety of music cannot be erased. He improved the piano performance from the aspects of the styles and skills, and led the piano music to the common families, which was warmly welcomed by the people. And then it made him become the most successful composer who can perfectly combined the pop and classic music. His creativities opened up a new road for the American folk music to get rid of the fetters of the traditional European music. In this thesis, I analyzed the background, traits of the style and performance skills of his works by the way of files research and self-performance. I want to get the national characteristics of Gershwin by analyzing the "Prelude" and "Rhapsody in Bule'M hope more people can deeply know George Gershwin, and American folk music .What's more is that I hope my thesis can raise us to think about the development of the Chinese piano music.
