Flange is a kind of general standard part, it is widely used in petroleum, chemical industry and urban construction and industrial development. At present, domestic production of the flange enterprises are processed by the general purpose machines. Many kinds of flanges and many specifications flanges can be processed by general NC machine tools. However, generality is strong than speciality, production efficiency is not much, equipment functions are wasted more, and high costs.By building flange parametric design system, the 3D images can be formed quickly, CAD function in flange CAD/CAPP/CAM System can be good used, productivity of flange has risen greatly.In order to adapt to the new features of products, fulfill the specialized design of products and apply deeply CAD technology in corprorations, it is very necessary to do advanced development on 3D CAD software. As one of the best popular 3D software , especially in machine area, Pro/ENGINEER has provided developed tool kit——Pro/Toolkit。In integrated development environment of Visual Studio 2005, this subject developed flange parametric design system in line with the user needs by Pro/ENGINEER redevelop tool——Pro/Toolkit. After the user input the basic parameters of flange, the system can generate the 3D images automatically. The system has greatly increased the efficiency and quality of design.Firstly, analyzing and expoiting the applicance of CAD technology in current flange designing.Secondly, modeling flange according to their parameters. For example, integral flange.Teaching mode is built up by analyzing the structural characeristics of integral steel pipe flanges with flat face or raised face. Then modes of different characteristics are built up by the software of Pro/Engineer 4.0 according to essential parameters of integral flange.Then, establishing flange pull-down menus and dialog boxes. On the basis of Visual Studio2005, Pro/Engineer4.0 reworked, the pull-down menu of"Flange Parametric Design"and the man-computer conversational dialog box are esstablished in Pro/E. Finally, establishing flange 3D parametric design system based on the above three steps. In this step, the 3D images are formed automatically after typing in proper parameters of flange. The system can demonstrate the changing trend of the modules of flange with changed essential parameters, such as diameter of flange, center circle diameter of bolt hole, diameter of bolt hole, number of bolts, and so on. Thus, it is important for designers to see changing rules of flange's parameters. Besides that, it has the instructive meanings in designig flange.The applicance of this system can ease the heavy designing burden, improve the designing effeciancy and lower the designing costs. At the same time, it provides reference function for other parts in parametric designing.
